25 September 2022

Good Evening Roosevelt Families,

I appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work through challenges.  Last week was a good representation of all the good at our school and the challenges we face.  Peace One Day, led by Ms. LaVelle, Mrs. Leach, and Coach Martinez was a true highlight of the year so far.  This video encapsulates so much joy from our students.  Shoutout to Sergio for the drone footage, Lisa for the photos, and Pax Willoughby for tech assistance in creating the video! Back to School Night was also a huge success, thank you RooFriends for treating our teachers to the delicious food from Bread and Cheese, Mahalo Shave Ice Company, Up In Smoke BBQ that was amazing.  As for our challenges, we will continue to work with students and families affected by incident I emailed about last week.  We will have extra counselors on campus on Monday.  Ms. Brewer and I will be talking with all 8th grade English classes about this, to ensure that our students feel safe, know that there is support available to them, and to remind all students the importance of respecting each other.

RooFriends Reminders:

1) Fall ASE starts this week. If you applied, please check your email for details. Contact the ASE team if you need to drop any classes due to schedule conflicts.

Attendance Policy Reminder

As we are now entering our fourth week of school we have noticed an increasing number of students arriving late to school on a daily basis. As a reminder, gates are open at 8:15 and you are welcome to drop off your student so that they are in their seat at 8:30, since that is the time school starts. Please review the attendance policy carefully with your student to learn more about excused and unexcused absences. As the attendance office we are obligated to follow district attendance guidelines. Aside from this, 8th grade students have certain attendance guidelines in order to participate in the promotion ceremony at the end of the year.

As a reminder, if your student has excessive tardies or absences, they may be invited to attend Core Academy, also known as Saturday School.
